Yuantong Buddhist Temple is the oldest, largest and most influential ancient Buddhist temple in Kunming, Yunnan, a representative temple of Han Buddhism in southwest China. It is located in Kunming City, central Yunnan Province, close to the city center.

History

Founded in the late Tang Dynasty during the Nanzhao Kingdom period, boasting a history of more than 1,200 years.

Expanded and renovated on a large scale in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, forming the existing architectural scale.

It has long been the core Buddhist ritual center in Kunming and a key religious site integrating Han and Yunnan ethnic Buddhist cultures.

Listed as a key cultural relic protection unit for its long history and well-preserved ancient buildings.
