Golden Temple Park

Kunming Jindian (Golden Temple Park) is a free, 4A-level scenic area and home to China’s largest pure copper temple. It’s located on Mingfeng Mountain in Kunming’s Panlong District, about a 20-minute drive from the city center.

Main Highlights

The Copper Temple

    The star attraction: a 6-meter-tall, 250-ton pure copper Taoist temple.

    Built in 1602 (Ming Dynasty) and rebuilt in 1671 by Wu Sangui (a historical figure).

    Dedicated to Zhenwu, the Taoist God of the North. The entire structure (pillars, roof, walls) is made of copper, and it’s still in excellent condition.

    Bell Tower & Bronze Bell

      A 14-ton bronze bell, the largest in Yunnan, hangs in the Bell Tower. The sound can be heard from miles away.

      Gardens & Nature

        The park is a forest botanical garden with over 10 specialized plant sections, including a famous camellia garden (Kunming’s city flower).

        It’s known as a “natural oxygen bar” with lush trails, perfect for hiking and bird watching.

        Kunming World Horticultural Expo Garden (世博园) – Connected by a cable car.

        Bus: Routes 10, 47, 71, 146, 235 stop at “Jindian” (金殿).

        Self-driving: Navigate to “Jindian Scenic Area” (金殿风景名胜区); parking is available.

        Travel Tips

        Best Time: Visit from late winter to early spring to see the camellias in bloom.

        What to Wear: Wear comfortable shoes for the hilly trails.

        Nearby Food: After your visit, try local farm dishes like roasted whole goat or steamed chicken at the restaurants on the back hill.
