East Wind Rhyme

Dongfengyun (东风韵, “East Wind Rhyme”) is a viral red-brick art town & AAAA scenic area in Mile, Yunnan — often called “Provence of Central Yunnan” or “China’s Magical Red-Brick Town.”

Location: Xinshao Town, Mile City (10 mins by taxi from Mile High-Speed Rail Station; 35 mins from Kunming)

Tickets: ¥80 (admission + shuttle bus); ¥40 (students/seniors); free under 1.2m

Hours: 08:30–18:00 (last entry 17:45); Fri–Sat open till 22:00 with light shows

Best time: April–October (lavender bloom); sunset for golden-hour photos

Core Highlights (Red-Brick Architecture)

Designed by Yunnan artist Luo Xu, built with 80 million local red bricks — no steel, no concrete, just brick craftsmanship.

Kaleidoscope Art Museum (万花筒艺术馆)
Iconic landmark; shapes like flames/wine bottles. Triangular windows cast shifting light patterns; houses “Thousand-Pot Choir” terracotta figures.

Half-Cloud Art Lounge (半朵云)
Flowing, cloud-like curves; red brick waves. Winner of Red Dot Design Award.

Seal Square (印章坊)
Giant “stone seal” pillars; square base + round dome (ancient Chinese “round sky, square earth” concept).

Flower Fields & Scenery

Lavender Fields: 600 acres of purple lavender (Apr–Oct); Dutch windmills, lakes, and flower beds (bellflower, verbena) — European countryside vibes.

Lakes & Wetlands: Twin lakes, forest trails, and wetlands for cycling and walks.

How to Get There

High-speed Rail (Best): Kunming South → Mile (33 mins, ¥34) → taxi 10 mins (¥15)

Self-driving: Kunming → 2 hours; parking ¥10/day

Bus: Mile City Bus Line 1 → Dongfengyun (¥5, 20 mins)

Pro Tips

Shuttle bus: ¥20 round-trip (5km route; must buy)

Night visit: Fri–Sat till 22:00; 20:00/20:30 water & light show

Nearby: Pair with Huquan Hot Springs or Jingping Mountain Maitreya Buddha
