Rebkong Shaman Festival

Drive to Rebkong. On the way visit Kumbum monastery of Gelukpa-sect, which was built in 1560 in Rashar county and also one of the six grand monasteries in Tibet. After that drive to Repkong, and visit of Rongwo monastery of Gelukpa sect which was initially constructed as a monastery of Sakya-sect.

The Shaman Festival is a grandiose affair giving thanks to the Mountain God, honored by a show of shamanic powers in amazing and shocking ways. The Tibetan and Tu ethnic groups believe the immortal Mountain God is their protector. Guests will witness striking costumes, taste great food and enjoy the lively atmosphere. But the bizarre rituals are what attract most visitors.

Today you will visit Wutun Temple, a monastery known for its Buddhist Thangka painting.    Wutun has upper and lower village lamaseries, Each has its own art school.

In the morning visit the festival. Early afternoon transfer back to Labrang.

This town has the largest population of Tibetan Monks outside the Tibetan Autonomous Region. Labrang Monastery and Kumbum Monastery (visited earlier in the week) are the two most important monasteries for the Gelug School outside of Lhasa. This monastery has a long and storied history and plays an integral role in Tibetan history.

Drive to Talsang Lhamo. This picturesque and remote mountain village is a great place to be immersed in Tibetan culture. We will have the opportunity to wander through the countryside while listening to the local Tibetan legends. An option for the days activity is to do a horse trek.

 In the morning drive to Sogwo. The local Tibetan people from Sogwo consider themselves to be Mongolians because this region were controlled by the Mongols nomad tribes once in ancient time. You can also visit the Laka monastery which is located 2km away from the Sogwo town. The monastery also gives a beautiful overlooking view from its small hill behind the monastery.

 In the morning you will be driving to Dredzong monastery via Tsekok grassland and then you will also have a chance to see the Yellow river after passing Badzong. Dredzong monastery just located in front of Sedzong rock mountain. This is one of the most famous Dzongs in Amdo. The monastery also gives a beautiful hiking around the rocky mountains.

In the morning you will be taking a Kora around the rocky mountain behind the monastery. Which takes 2 – 3 hrs. On the way you can visit meditation caves and various shapes around the mountain and also there are some wild blue sheep can be seen on the hiking trails. Afternoon drive to Kokonor via Chabcha town.

In the morning drive back to Xining via Sun and Moon mountain. A small mountain range Kunlun. Which consider to be the land mark of Tibetan plateau and the Yellowland plateau of China. If time allows. You can visit Tibet Medicine Museum.
