Jyekundo Explore Tour

Day01: Arrive Jyekundo (Yushu)(3658m) 

Arrive in the gorgeous Tibetan town of Jyekundo, the main trade mart of the region, where you’ll find a guide ready and waiting to transfer you from the airport to Hotel.

Day02:Jyekundo(3658m)

In the morning you will be visiting the Gyanak Mani. The Gyanak Mani stone pile is composed of at least 2 billion hand-carved prayer stones. Considered one of the holiest sites in Kham, and then  visit the Dondrubling Monastery, a Sakya tradition monastery also called Jyekunmonastery. which is perched high up on a hill overlooking Jyekundo, it is now home to 400 monks of the Sakya sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

Day03:Jyekundo(3658m)

In the morning you will be visit Leba vally. In this river valley you will see a great number of Buddhist carvings both on the mountains and in the river. The Leba Valley is 30 kilometers from Jyekundo and the carvings in the river rocks are especially impressive with the water flowing clear and shallow, hundreds of rocks in the river all bear intricate carvings from Buddhist scriptures. You can also swim in a hot spring in the valley. Afterwards, drive further to the valley to visit the  temple of Nambarnangzel. It was constructed to honor the Chinese princess who married the Tibetan King Songsten Gampo. King Songsten Gampo is credited as the first person to bring Buddhism to Tibetans.

Day04:Jyekundo – Surmang Dultsi Dil(4000m) – Surmang NamGyaltse 130km 5 -6hrs 

In the morning drive to Surmang Dultsi Dil en route the Kulha mountain pass. Which is 4750m high. Sumang Dultsi Dil is one of the Kagyul monastery in the region. Afternoon drive 60km south to Surmang Namgyaltse. En route visit Gading monastery. Originally was a Nyinma tradition. Later converted to Geluk by the Dalai lama during his visit to Beijing. This monastery provides a stunning view of its location on a small hill between a bend of upper reaches of Mekong river. Surmang Namgyaltse is the head of the two Surmang monasteries. Which also belongs to Kagyul tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

Day05:Surmang Namgyaltse –Nangchen 92km 2-3hrs 

In the morning drive to Nangchen. was formerly one of Kham region’s five independent kingdoms and built in a side valley and on the right bank of the Dzachu (upper reaches of the Mekong). The county’s name is derived from the former king (Nangchen Gyalpo). Afternoon visit Bomi monastery.

Day06: Nangchen(3700m) 

In the morning you will travel to a farm that produces salt using traditional manufacturing techniques. After the salt farm we travel to the Gar Monastery. Located at the head of a deep V-shaped valley, this photogenic monastery is perched high up on steep cliffs. Afternoon drive back to Nangchen.

Day06: Nangchen – Gyamar Mani – Gechak Nunnery (4000m) 180km 6 – 7hrs

You will be visiting Gyamar mani located in southwestern Nangchen county. Near to the village of Chichu is the Gyamar Mani, the second largest collection of carved prayer stones in Kham after the famous Gyanak Mani in Jyekundo. There are hundreds of millions of carved prayer stones at the Gyamar Mani Temple. the Gyamar Mani stone pile. This picturesque Mani Stone pile overlooks a scenic bend in the Chi-chu River. If time allows. You can also visit the Trulshik monastery located 15km from Chichu. After lunch we depart for the Gechak Nunnery. is the largest nunnery in Nangchen and the largest in Qinghai province. Gechak lies on a remote grassland area. The nuns here are extremely friendly and very rarely have any guests. In order to reach it we need to cross three 4,000 m passes.

Day07: Gechak Nuunery – Dana Monasery (4300m) 180km 6 – 7hrs

In the morning drive to the Dana Monastery to see King Gesar’s Thirty Warrior Stupa. Dana Monastery is remote and is the only monastery which built during the King Gesar reign of Tibet. And also the only Yerpa Kagyul tradition of Tibet existed. The mountain top monastery sits at 4300 meters and is surrounded by jagged peaks that are snow-capped for much of the year.

Day08: Dana Monasery (4300m) 

In the morning explore the remoteness of the monastery by hike around the small peaks of hills and then take a short viste to the hotspring near the monastery.

Day09: Dana Monasery – Nangchen 195km 5 -6 hrs  

In the morning drive back to Nangchen. On the way experience of beauty of wild terrains and upper reaches of Mekong river.

Day10: Nangchen – Nyinje Lake (4200m)100km 5 -6 hrs 

In the morning drive to Nyinje holy Lake. The local people consider to be the lake of god of compassion. You can also visit the small monastery near the lake called Ayong monastery.

Day11: Nyinje Lake – Rongbo(4100m) 160km 5 – 6 hrs  

In the morning you will drive to Rongbo Nature Reserve. The reserve will be a great place for some bird and wildlife photography and watching. A breeding ground for Black Necked Crane, it provides an opportunity to view these endangered birds in their natural habitat.

Day12: Rongbo – Jyekundo (3658m) 160km 5 – 6 hrs

In the morning drive to Jyekundo.

Day13: Depart Jyekundo

Transfer to Jyekundo Yushu Batang airport for departure flight.
