Kham is one of the three traditional regions of Tibet (along with Ü-Tsang and Amdo). It lies in eastern Tibet and is known for its dramatic landscapes, strong cultural identity, and historic monasteries. Today, Kham is mainly spread across southern part of Qinghai, western Sichuan, with parts in Yunnan and the eastern Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). High mountains, deep valleys, grasslands, and sacred peaks define the region. Khampa Tibetans are known for their distinct language dialect, colorful dress, horsemanship, and strong sense of independence. Tibetan Buddhism is central to daily life, with both Nyingma and Kagyu traditions widely practiced.
