Day 2: Xining – Qinghai Lake – Chabcha (Acclimatization ) (2870m)
In the morning drive to Lake Kokonor (Chinese: Qinghai Hu), the largest salt water lake in China and a sacredhistoric place for Tibetans. Exploring at the lake is a good chance to experience the diversity of nature and the changes occurring in the environment of the Tibetan Plateau, After that, we will drive to Chabcha town.
Day 3: Chabcha – Ragya (3500m)
After breakfast, drive to Ragya, drive through vast Amdo grassland and see the beautiful Badzong grassland, where nomads take their yaks and sheep to graze. While talking a walk through town, get a glimpse of daily life in a Tibetan village.
Day 4: Ragya – Tsanak Kamdo (3900m)
Head out to Tsanak Khamdo via Machen town, Along the way, stop off at Ragya Monastery, a branch of Sera Monastery in Tibet Autonomous Region. Ragya is located at open red clay valley on the Yellow River side. There is a half hour circumambulation path around the monastery which you can go with local pilgrims.
Day 5: Tsanak Kamdo – Yon Halong valley pass (trek & Camp) (4900m)
Our trek will start from Tsanak Khamdo, which is the trek start point from the east side of Mt Amnye Machen. On the way to Yon Halong valley, we shall enjoy spectacular views of peaks of different mountians and native flora and fauna. For this night, we will camp outside of the nomadic village of Yon halong.
Day 6: Halong valley pass – Yi Halong valley (trek & Camp ) (4000m)
On our way to Yi Halong-Chu Valley, we will cross over the Drakdar Pass (4700m). This vantage point reveals a beautiful vista of the ancient Rikhar Tongshang Glacier. After trek 8-10km, you will see the nomad summer camp around a sandy river bed, which is said to be a lake long time ago, but now its dried out of water, we will camp somewhere near the nomad camp site.
Day 7:Yi Halong (Car) – Tawo Zholma (trek) – Jomoyang ra (trek & Camp) (4500m)
Today, you will be descending from the Yi halong valley to the bottom of glacier, and continue to the end of the valley, it will takes 3-4 hours. Afterwards we will drive to Tawo Zholma and have some great lunch there and continue the trek to Jomo Yangra.
Day 8: Jomo Yangra – Shari La – Goku Chenmo (trek & camp )(4600m)
After breakfast, Trek from Jomo Yangra to Gokuthang via Sharila pass. From Shari la, you will see the whole range of Mt Amnye Machen and the majestic peaks. After trek 2 km, you will find a huge residuum of glacier. The route again descending from Shari la pass and after crossing a bridge, you will again ascending to the direction of Goku Chenmo. Gokufthang can be witnessed a little far from the main route on the left hand side, which said to be the entrance to the protector of Amnyi Machen Pomra palace. Afterwards your trek will be close to the finish point Guku Chenmo.
Day 9: Goku Chenmo – Tamchok la pass (trek & camp) (4700m)
In the morning after breakfast. Trek from Gokuthang to Tamchok La via Rock valley. Tamchok means the perfect horse or the Hayagriva. Tantric deity shown with a horse’s head within his flaming hair; wrathful aspect of Buddha Amitabha. Rock valley is located around 10km from Goku Chenmo. There are hundreds of stones piled up for worshiping the holy mountain by the pilgrims.
Day 10: Tamchok la pass – Tsanak Kamdo (trek) – (Car) Machen (3700m)
In the morning trek from Tamchok La pass via Dolma Bumdzong, after trek 10 – 12 km, you will pass Dolma Bumdzong, a secret place associated with Tara. From Dolma past some nomadic houses set among sparse juniper woods in the surrounding hills.Trek down another 9 km to north direction along the main glacier river Yonkhor Chu. The Yongkhor chu River is the place where monks and traditional Tibetan medical practitioners receive blessings from Naga (a water god) after collecting herbs. You will often see the monks by the river doing their medical prayers.The altitude will be descending from 4900m to 3900m. Afterwards drive to Machen town.
Day 11: Machen – Xining (2270m)
On our way back to Xining, we will once again have the opportunity to view the water-forged landscape of the Yellow River Valley. This early stretch of the river is a jade green color; it reflects the surrounding mountains will mirror-like clarity. Afterwards drive to Xining.
